First Word!
When: Sundays at 8:30 AM
Style: Blended
What To Expect: This is multi-sensory worship! There is a praise band, but music is of a blended nature. You might sing the old hymns of the faith, as well as more contemporary praise music. We also use soloists, quartets, and our gospel choir to enhance the worship experience. One week there might be a dramatic portrayal of scripture, the next week you could be coming forward to leave your written prayer request at the foot of a rugged cross. We also use technology, projecting song and scripture, and we use lots of video and movie clips to enhance worship. Most people dress casually, wearing khakis, jeans, skirts.
Traditional Worship
When: Sundays at 11:00 AM
Style: We call it “spirited” Traditional
What to Expect: This is traditional worship that has vitality! You will hear the more traditional worship music. You will experience classic church music shared through the use of the organ, bells and chimes, piano, and orchestral instruments such as flute, tympani, clarinet, and oboe. Our Sanctuary Choir sings many anthems from well-known church composers like Craig Courtney, as well as anthems from composers like Handel and Bach. Technology is used on occasion in this service. We also use the arts in our worship to enhance the message of the morning. Most people tend to dress up a bit for this service, although casual dress is just fine for this service as well.
Special Services
Taizé Worship
When: Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM during Advent and Lent
Style: Quiet, contemplative worship in the style of the Taizé spiritual community.
What to expect: Taizé worship includes candlelight, prayer, readings, silence, and singing with the music of Taizé. Instruments such as flute, keyboard, violin, oboe and guitar are employed. A time of anointing with healing oil and the lighting of individual prayer candles are often part of the worship experience. Taizé offers a quiet and contemplative oasis in the midst of busy lives.
