United Methodist Women (UMW)
Our United Methodist Women's (UMW) Ministry seeks to encourage and equip women in their personal walk with Jesus Christ through Christian fellowship, learning, and service.
The purpose of UMW as stated by the global organization:
United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose Purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in global ministries of the church.
At the local level, the UMW is organized into small groups or 'circles' which generally meet monthly. Each circle is different in meeting times and purpose; however, all share the common purpose of UMW.
Membership in UMW
Membership in the UMW is open to all women of the church. Circles are offered during the day and in the evening and welcome new members throughout the year. Each circle has specific projects they elect to support and are also involved in the community through support of Thanksgiving Share, school supplies, Christmas share, assisting with the community meals and working on special projects.
Circles also provide a small group experience to get to know women of the church and to grow spiritually through programs and projects.
The current First Church UMW Circles are:
Deborah Circle - a scrapbooking circle, meets the first Thursday at 7:00 PM, led by Carol Walker; call 323-4602 for information.
Elizabeth Circle - meets the second Thursday at 11:00 AM, led by Mary Carlson; call 366-3575 for information.
Esther Circle – meets the third Tuesday at 9:30 AM, led by Betty Radley and Betty Oiler; call 345-6354 for information.
Mary Circle - meets the first Tuesday at 7 PM, led by Cheryl Myers; call 364-9846 for information.
Miriam Circle - meets the third Monday at 1:00 PM, led by Lois Crouse and Nellie Allman; call 344-4919 for information.
Rachel/Ruth Circle - meets the second Thursday at 11:00 AM, led by Oma Cooperrider and Mary VanHorn; for information call 345-6328.
Rebekah Circle - meets the fourth Monday at 7 PM, led by Melissa Loomis; call 366-6362 for information.
