Family facts: Married to Shirley, my childhood sweetheart. We have three children; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Education: Graduated Philo High School, Bachelor of Arts Degree from Otterbein College, Master of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary.
How I became a Christian: I was born into Christianity both physically and spiritually. My parents were both the products of very religious parents as I was. I professed my faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and was baptized in the Muskingum river when I was 8 years old.
How I ended up at First Church: I was appointed Senior Pastor 1987 and retired in 1991. Shirley and I returned to Newark in 1992 and First Church graciously named me the Senior Pastor Emeritus.
The most important thing I do around here is: I prayerfully support the ordained and lay staff in their ministries and the congregation in fulfilling its mission as the body of Christ.
My vision for the future of First Church is: that it will grow in numbers as a result of growing in the likeness of Jesus.
